The Conveyor Belt Mentality

We may know that most factories are located in China, sure. Big deal. We have already discovered that most things are made in China anyway. But that doesn't mean that all factories are the same - just like all car factories are not the same either. Mercedes Benz probably have a better factory than Skoda. Are their factories the same? Are their production costs the same? No.

The ultra cheap manufacturers will knock up their clients a hairpiece for $45 - sometimes as low as $35 in extreme cases. These are the places that your ultra cheap net retailer is using, for the obvious reasons of keeping costs as low as possible but keeping a profit margin to be proud of. So, anywhere in the $200 range of hairpiece is almost certainly being made at a cheap factory.

No problem there of course. So long as you get a good piece.

In our extensive tests, we naturally wanted to find a factory that was as cheap as possible, but which could demonstrate a consistent output. Forget it.

It became known as the 'Conveyor Belt Mentality'. Too many workers, working at different times, too many machines, too many reasons for things to simply go wrong. Not enough care, not enough attention to the details that customers complain about. It's 5 o clock? "I'm outta here; whoever's in tomorrow can sort out this mistake - if they even notice." These are just high output places that often get it right, but often get it wrong. Hey, everyone gets it wrong. But often?

And if the customer doesn't like it? Who cares?

What did you expect for $45?
