Insider Debate: Toupee or Not Toupee?

It's highly unlikely that you would walk around wanting to tell random people that you wear your hair. After all, you've spent so much effort in creating that 'undetectable' look. It would be like a Stealth Bomber covering itself in fancy Christmas lights.

But IF you did tell people, how would you describe it? What would you call it? A hair system? A hairpiece? A toupee?

Chances are, if you DID have to explain it - you would call it a hair system to someone who didn't know anything about them, just like I did to someone at dinner the other day. It sounds better, more advanced, and maybe just a bit more acceptable than 'toupee'. There's science involved.

But to all the pros who wear them, we refer to them as either hairpieces or simply, pieces. Why? Because we're all in the same boat, we're all the same, and we all know the game. So we cut the bull, knowing full well that we won't be judged negatively by people just like us.

What's your experience?

  1. I just say it's a hairpiece. The word toupee just sounds antiquated and the term System screams "I'm an Ex- Hair Club Member".

  2. I would say its a painless artificial implant, to make it sounds more medical.

  3. i would like to call it a hair system because toupe sounds like 1900's "also was a hair clb member"

  4. I call it a hair system also. I don;t advertise it, but if someone notices (Usually someone who has tried them or wears one) I explain it. I started with hair club also, then went looking for methods to do it myself cheaper. I was ashamed at first and didn't want anyone to know. I spent a lot of time worrying about someone finding out, especially a female, I am a musician living in Nashville, and I spend a lot of time in the spotlight doing shows in front of a lot of different people. I have women coming up to me constantly, flirting and wanting to get to know me so at first I was very self conscious.. As years have gone by, I have learned to be confident about it and I don't really care if someone knows.. I am a very social person and have studied social dynamics. I know how to talk to people and take over a crowd. As a musician, I am a very creative person and am good at knowing what to say and when to say it. People like me, the guys want to be my friend and the girls usually want to date me. I have dated several who knew about my "hair system" but it did not bother them in the least. They liked me for who I am as a person, and it did not matter to them. I recommend that anyone who wears a hair system to take some psychology classes or do some research online. especially social interaction, and social engineering. If you study and learn some of these techniques, you will be a more confident person. You can learn to be the guy that everyone likes and wants to hang out with. You will care less about your hair and someone noticing it. I have learned how to be an alpha male. If another guy were to notice my hair or make a remark, I wouldn't bat an eye.. I would say, so what? The ladies like me and think I am sexy, so who cares about my hair? I don't, It doesn't bother me, don't let it bother you bro.. Then I would change the subject, Hey lets go talk to those ladies over there.... If you don't let it bother you, and you act confident, then it will not be a big deal. I also would recommend that the guys Google the "Mystery Method" It's all about being confident around the ladies, and how to talk to them. It will really make a big difference in your social standing. You will find that being a social person and being a confident person will make a big difference with your hair system. It won't matter to you and those around you that you wear a hair system if you are the confident person that everyone loves to be around. Even if you are shy, awkward, and not very social, you can learn to be, and it will make a HUGE difference in the way you feel about your hair system. Feel free to message me if anyone wants any info about being more confident, I will point you in the right direction. There is all kinds of free info and advice about this on the internet.... - Michael
